SHARKHUNTERS International
2017 "Southern Patrol"

On the trail of 3rd Reich World War Two History
More bunkers to explore.........

Both above - Another great breakfast before we hit the road for another day of excitement and history.

Photo right - One last look at Mondsee after the morning rain, and we are on the road headed toward the bunker complex at Ebensee.  This had been a massive underground factory building various items for the war effort.

Both below - the layout of the bunker complexes in this area.  As you see, they were extensive.

Above left - Heinrich Himmler and group inspecting the work on the tunnels.

Above right - A banquet here.

Right - Identity cards for three workers here:
  top - a common laborer
  center - Wei▀, a Jewish technician
bottom - Piroutec, a stone mason

Below left - Entrance to one bunker//factory
Below right - What it looks like inside

Above - End of the tunnel with L and R on the wall, showing Links (left) or Recht (right).  Along both walls were numbers where machines were located and so, if something was to go to the machine at L43, it was easy to make the delivery.

Right and both below - The memorials to those who died during this time in the war.

As in the photo right, we see several photos with what appears to be smoke. I assure you, there was absolutely no smoke in these tunnels, so make of this what you will.

Photo left - Between the "L" and the "R" at the end of that tunnel is an iron grated window.  Dr. "Q" opened the grate to let the bolder Sharkhunters hop up and slide through.

Below left - Once beyond the grating we observe the foundation for what was probably mounting for diesel engines to power the electric generators.

Photo below - yep, there is that "smoke" again.

All the following photos are shot in the huge unfinished part of this one bunker complex.  Come along with us.

Let us state categorically that none of us saw any of this "smoke" while we were in the tunnels; I only saw it once we returned to HQ to process and post these photos.

.........and so we must ask ourselves - what IS this "smoke" we see?  Your guess is as good as mine.

A short distance from the bunker in the photos above stands another bunker complex, which we visit here.

Above left - This entrance is not easily seen.

Above right - It is more clear when we get close.

Right - The entrance; and that "smoke" again.

Below left - Dr. "Q" leads us inside.

Below right - YEVGENIY is enjoying his time here.

Above left - Most likely the foundation for a diesel engine.

Above right - Most likely the foundation for the fuel tanks.

Left - The L÷wengang; the "Lion's Walk"....prisoners were not allowed to use the same walkway as others, and so this was their walkway to and from their worksite.

We hope you are finding this photo history of our 2017 Southern Patrol educational.  Come with us next year for our 2018 "Southern Patrol" and bring the camera.  You'll be glad you did.
