SHARKHUNTERS International
2017 July "South American Expedition"

On the trail of the 3rd Reich in - Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay
Mengele!     Müller!     Two women who "died" in a bunker in 1945

The breakfast was great, as always in this hotel that is operated by the Argentine Navy especially for veterans of any seagoing military.  As a former Flotilla Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard (Aux.) I am made to feel at home here.

After breakfast, I take a cab to a specific street corner in Buenos Aires where S.E.I.G. Agent CARLOS is waiting.  He quickly hops into the cab and gives the driver the address of a flower shop.

This flower shop has been in the same family for at least three generations and CARLOS introduced ourselves to the current owners, the grandson and the granddaughter of the man who watched the activities in the building across the narrow street (photos below) back in the days of World War Two and a few years after.

The grandson was a child in those days but he did confirm that this was a meeting place for large numbers of Germans at that time - but he did not remember their names.

CARLOS confirmed that among those attending various functions there were Heinrich "Gestapo" Müller and also Martin Bormann, but he is sure that Dr. Josef Mengele had not been there.

Immediately after the war, this was one of the main centers of ASMYNA - Ayuda Social Mujeres y Ninos Alemanes (the Society to Help German Women and Children).  This was similar to the American effort with CARE packages and "Bundles for Britain" by which badly needed clothing, food and other necessities were shipped to a war-torn and devastated Europe.

Okay, maybe I was a bit homesick for "American" food so I stopped for my evening meal at the Burger King near my hotel.  That was one huge mistake!  Later we were told that the company that was supplying all the fast food restaurants in South America had supplied some bad meat and people all over South America were coming down with problems - most likely salmonella.  A few young kids even died.  This situation even made the news up here in the USA, but that was after I had eaten at BK.

Thank God I only ate half the burger but I couldn't leave my hotel room for three days and I got pretty weak and dehydrated.  Again thank God, my good friend in the area, Lt. Cdr. EDUARDO GERDING, Member #6895-LIFE is a doctor.  He figured out the problem after several phone calls then he called in a prescription to a nearby pharmacy.  He followed by up calling the front desk of my hotel and sending the desk clerk out in the rain to pick up the medicine and bring it directly to my room.  After taking the medicine and drinking several bottles of Gatorade, I was back to normal and ready to continue......and we are now headed to Brazil and Paraguay to follow the footsteps of Dr. Josef Mengele, and a couple ladies who were reported dead in Berlin in the closing days of the war.
