Comments about items bought in the July 2010 Auction:
      The buyer of the two rare paintings he got for $1,350 said they were easily worth $5,000.
     The buyer of the SA dagger said when he received it, that it was far more beautiful than the photos on the auction.
           He was so excited when he received his dagger that he called here to let us know how pleased he was.

Comments about items bought in the July 2010 Auction:
#6642 had this to say;
      "I really like that medal I won.  Many thanks."

Item #165   Description - Wooden Soled Shoes

We were told by a museum director that these wooden soled shoes were issued to German P.O.W.'s when in Soviet prison camp for two reasons.

1.  They made noise when walking, so the P.O.W. was easily found;
2.  The soles did not flex and so it was impossible for the P.O.W. to run, making escape attempts impossible.

He told us that these are very rare and should sell for at least $500.

BUYER'S TIPS
A word to the wise.............we know that some bidders like to wait for the last moment to place their bids - but is that always a good thing?  In our August 2010 Sharkhunters Auction, a bidder was waiting until the last moment to place his bid but his wife got sick and he had to rush her to the hospital.  He missed his chance to bid and the item was not bid on by anyone, so the item went back into stock.  Fortunately for him, that item is back on the list for this month.  It is okay to wait if that is your style - but one never knows when something will happen to change your plans.

A prolific author, Captain BEACH wrote many excellent books, the best known is "Run Silent!  Run Deep!" and it was turned into a movie starring many well-known actors - Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster, Jack Warden, Don Rickles and others.

Item #484   HAND-SIGNED Photo - BRASACK

HAND-SIGNED photo of Kapitänleutnant PAUL BRASACK (5940-1999).  He is a very unusual recipient of the Knights Cross because he never sank anything!  Toward the end of the war, when things were going badly for Germany and they needed heroes, PAUL BRASACK attacked the escort of Convoy JW.56b and when his torpedo detonated in the wake of a destroyer, several escorts set out after him.  They did not catch him, but he became the 'rabbit' that lured the escorts away from the convoy and other U-Boats were able to close in and sink ships.

This 3 x 4 inch photo is HAND-SIGNED by Kapitänleutnant BRASACK.

Item #485   HAND-SIGNED Photo - HESS

HAND-SIGNED photo of Oberleutnant zur See der Reserve HANS-GEORG HESS (125-1985) who took command of a combat submarine (U-995) as a very young man, just four months past his 21st birthday!  He made five successful Feindfahrten (war patrols) in the last few months of the war, when U-Boats were not returning from their first.  HESS is the youngest Knights Cross winner of the U-Bootwaffe.

After the war, he became a lawyer and ultimately, a Doctor of Law.  No one helped Sharkhunters more than HESS - he and Sharkhunters President HARRY COOPER (1-LIFE-1983) became good friends.

This 3 x 4 inch photo is HAND-SIGNED by Oberleutnant zS dR HESS.
