DICK FREITAG was a US Navy submariner
in World War II and beyond. He rode USS BLUEBACK but above that, he
worked hard on making USS SILVERSIDES a Memorial boat and worked to
maintain her. That's not all - he worked extremely hard in U-505 to
restore her to the beauty she is today.
DICK had a good heart and was always helping with worthy projects - he also did
a lot to help Sharkhunters in our early days. But it didn't pay to get on
DICK's bad side - he was known as a 'curmudgeon', not giving any mercy to
those who tried to stop a good project, and he proudly acknowledged that title.
If you knew anything about the WW II American submarines - you knew the name of
DICK FREITAG and that's a pretty good thing.
