WOLFGANG HIRSCHFELD was the radioman aboard U-109 and later was Oberfunkmeister (Chief Radio Operator) aboard U-234 during their attempt to reach Japan with a cargo of Uranium bound for the Japanese Army. Germany surrendered and the Skipper of U-234, JOHANN-HEINRICH FEHLER (32-1984) brought the boat and crew safely to surrender in the United States.
HIRSCHFELD wrote several books on his time in the war and his books were excellent history. He was a good man and very helpful to Sharkhunters.
