Johann-Otto Krieg was born 14 March 1919 in Somnitz, Riesengebirge, "Hanno" as he became known, was in Naval Class 1937b.  He was the very capable I.W.O. aboard U-81 under "Fritz" Guggenberger (269-+-1987) and later took command of that boat.

                   

He was decorated with the Knights Cross on 8 July 1944 but he does not appear on the roles of U-Bootfahrer who were so decorated.  That is because by that time, he was no longer with the U-Bootwaffe but rather with the K-Verband, the one-man and two-man U-Boats, manned torpedoes and explosive speedboats and this command was separate from the U-Bootwaffe.

"Hanno" Krieg was a Member from 1986 until his passing on 2 January 1999 and gave us some good memories of his time in the war.
