George Middleton
Member #347-1987
GEORGE MIDDLETON was a blimp pilot and one
day, while on patrol off the American east coast, he spotted some men in the
water, clinging to a couple lifebelts. He came down low over them and
dropped two rafts with some water, then called in a seaplane. He had saved
the lives of HORST DEGEN (116-1985) and the survivors of the sinking of U-701.
The men became acquainted after the war and exchanged accounts of this incident.
