ED OWENS served aboard USS REQUIN
as Engineman. After his service in the US Navy, he became a police officer
in central Florida. When it became necessary to refloat this boat and move
her 100 yards astern of the spot where she was resting in the Hillsborough River
in Tampa, ED was the guy with the knowhow to insert the specially made valves
into the tops of the ballast tanks and REQUIN came alive once
again. Sadly, he developed a fatal disease soon after and passed away in
his fifties.
