  KÖNIG  (5428-1997)
Kriegsmarine, U-Bootwaffe
     "KING" was a Fähnrich

VOLKMAR KÖNIG was a Fähnrich, a midshipman in training in 1941.  He was stationed aboard U-99 under the great OTTO KRETSCHMER (122-1985) on the 7th and final Feindfahrt (war patrol) of U-99.  He was one of those rescued and taken prisoner when U-99 was sunk and he was put into Bowmanville Prisoner of War Camp in Canada.

During the uprising known as "The Battle of Bowmanville" and shots rank out, he was wounded.  One shot from the guard tower hit him directly in the back and another round hit a wall next to him and he was hit with bullet splinters and concrete chips.
