Vice Admiral  HORST von SCHROETER
began as a cadet in the Naval Academy at Mürwick.  After various training assignments, he was posted as II. W. O. (Second Watchkeeping Officer) aboard U-123 under "the Drumbeater", REINHARD HARDEGEN (102-1985)

HORST moved on with his career and eventually became Commanding Officer of U-123 and for this service, he was decorated with the Knights Cross.

After the war and when Germany was again allowed to have a military, he joined the new navy, the Bundsmarine, where he rose to the rank of Vizeadmiral (three Stars) and was the highest ranked veteran of the former Kriegsmarine.
