SHARKHUNTERS International
Kapitänleutnant ALFRED EICK  #5941-1999
Kriegsmarine, U-Bootwaffe     Commander U-510

"FREDDIE" EICK commanded U-510 for about a year and a half and was highly successful; decorated with the Knights Cross.

Sharkhunters President HARRY COOPER (1-LIFE-1983) spent a pleasant day with Captain EICK in his home while he hand-signed the beautiful print "
Convoy in Sight" along with 17 other well-known veterans of World War Two.  Follow the link here to see for yourself.  He enjoyed timing himself on the clock to show that he could sign the 500 prints faster than anyone else.

He took his U-510 all the way through the Indian Ocean, Gulf 0f Aden, stopovers at Penang and Djakarta and back again to her homeport on the French coast.

With the German capitulation, U-510 was surrendered and given over to the French Navy who recommissioned her as BOUAN.  As such, she remained with the French Navy until  she was broken up for scrap in 1958.

It was a delightful day with Captain EICK.  He was a fun guy, always happy and upbeat.
