GEORGE  McKENZIE joined the Royal Australian Navy at age 16 as a Junior Recruit and his training began at HMAS LEEUWIN where he qualified as a Radar Plot rating and later as an Acoustic Warfare Analyst and Navigators Yeoman.  He was posted to HMAS SUPPLY (AO-195).

He then qualified as a Ships Diver and then posted to Royal Navy Submarine School at HMS DOLPHIN in the UK.  He qualified for his Dolphins while serving aboard HMS ONSLOW (SSG-60).  After serving on all the OBERON Class submarines, he was Chief Coxswain (Chief of the Boat) aboard HMAS OTAMA (SSG-72) and he also served as Chief Coxswain at the SubBase HMAS PLATYPUS where he instructed at the Submarine School and served in the Sea Training Group.

After more training courses, he was posted as Warfare Officer aboard HMAS OTWAY (SSG-59) and later was posted as XO of that submarine. After that boat was decommissioned he was posted as Staff Officer to the Director of Submarine Policy & Warfare then to Maritime HQ in Sydney as Training Coordinator for Submarines.

He was then posted as XO aboard the patrol boat HMAS GAWLER (PB-212) then posted to the Royal Australian Navy College as Sea Training Officer and Officer in Command of the training vessel SEAHORSE HORIZON (ex HMAS PROTECTOR ASR-241).

GEORGE has enjoyed a stellar career in the RAN and served in more positions and aboard more ships than we have room on this page.  His youngest brother (Brett) has been in the RAN more than ten years and is now an officer.  GEORGE's second son (Thomas) is an Electronics Tech in the RAN.
