GÜNTHER POSER took over
U-202 after Hans Linder. This boat, under Linder, had
been instrumental in the spy effort as it was U-202 that
put four agents ashore at Ammaganset, Long Island, New York as part of
Operation PASTORUS. Upon his return to base, command
of the boat was handed to POSER. Under Linder, U-202
sank more than half a cozen ships. POSER took command on 1
June 1942 and in one year, sank only three ships. He was captured
when U-202 was sunk.
When Germany was again allowed to have a Navy in the mid-1950's,
POSER joined the Bundsmarine and rose to the rank of Konteradmiral.
His last posting was head of the Abwehr/Intelligence for NATO. He
retired to his home in Simonstown, South Africa which was also the
headquarters of the South African Navy.
Sharkhunters President
HARRY COOPER
(1-LIFE-1983) spent a day with Admiral POSER in Bonn,
then the Capital of West Germany where, in POSER's words - the
government did their 'muddling about'. GÜNTHER POSER
was a very proper and correct man as COOPER saw as they were
waiting for a red light to change so they could walk across the street.
COOPER and POSER waited for the red light to change to
green, even though there were no cars in sight but a professor from the
University walked across against the red light.
"Like the natives in Africa!"
POSER said to COOPER. "That
man has no character, no order!" |
