PAUL ALBERT KAUSCH  (4007-1994)

One of the original members of the 1st SS (LAH) when he joined in 1933, he was sent to SS Junkerschul as Braunschweig where he was promoted to Untersturmführer (2nd Lieutenant).  He was promoted during peacetime ultimately to Hauptsturmführer (Captain) on 20 April 1939 and was in command of the 5th Battery SS Totenkopf Artillery Regiment.

During the Battle for France, he was awarded the IRON CROSS (1st Class) and in November 1940, was transferred to the 5th SS (Viking Division) as the Divisional Adjutant.

His prowess in battle was well known and with a small number of men, thwarted the Red Army's attempts to break through along the Lipsusstrasse.  His final rank was Obersturmbannführer (Lieutenant Colonel) and he was awarded many decorations up to the KNIGHTS CROSS with OAK LEAF.
