IGNATIUS  "PETE"  GALANTIN  (4289-1995)
United States Navy, Submarine Service
Skipper of USS HALIBUT (SS 232) in combat

Admiral "PETE" attends the building on the new USS HALIBUT (SSGN 587).  His outstanding career is well documented, so it is not necessary to go into it again here.  Instead, we'll talk about the man.  We met Admiral "PETE" some years ago at Naval SubBase King's Bay for the celebration of the birthday of the United States Navy Submarine Service.  Naturally, he and his wife were Guests of Honor.  The dinner was going like most such dinners, quiet and reserved - then Mrs. Galantin threw a loaf of bread at the table with the officers of USS MARYLAND!  They replied by throwing dinner rolls back at her and at other tables with officers of other boats!  In a heartbeat, the air was filled with flying dinner rolls - and our host explained that this was an old Annapolis tradition.

We talked with Admiral "PETE" at the conclusion of the evening's festivities - he was a great guy and ready to talk about all his wartime experiences.
