In high school in downstate Illinois, he was a State Champion flautist.
When he was a Midshipman at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, he kicked the
winning field goal to beat the heavily favored Army team for the first time in
years. He was also a champion boxer at the Academy.
During the Second World War, he commanded USS SEAHORSE, a highly
successful submarine and Cutter was decorated with the Navy
Cross - not once or twice, but FOUR
TIMES!
