Key Largo
Order Tape H-2
The first ever SHARKHUNTERS
Convention, and it was in Key Largo February of 1987.

Our 1st ever SHARKHUNTERS
history gathering; this in Key Largo Florida in February of 1987.
Three U-boat Skippers (one with the Knights
Cross), other officers and crewmen; American sub vets and tin can
veterans were with us too. We were
aboard the dive boat with our group AND the NBC TODAY
Show film crew, and that’s all on the tape too. Come along and watch
them film us for the TODAY Show.
Commanders in attendance were:
Oblt. Hans-Georg Hess, Skipper ofU-995,
Knights Cross
FKPT
Gerd Thäter, Skipper of U-466 and U-3506, Deutsches
Kreuz in Gold
Kplt Kurt
Baberg, Skipper of U-618, Deutsches

Other veterans in attendance included:
Oblt Waldemar
Triebel, I.W.O. on U-978
Oblt Ernst

and U-110

Grover McLeod, American
submarine veteran
Heinz Rheese, crewman on U-511
Walter Knoch, crewman on

Each of these veterans made a short speech and the information in the speeches
by these vets can be found nowhere else. Unlike
the others, Georg Högel spoke for well over an hour, telling about the first
U-boat into battle…..and his story of Alfonse the turkey will have you falling
off your chair with laughter. This
tape contains a great deal of first-person history.
