Reinhard Hardegen Interview - 1994
Tape H-52

Korvettenkapitän REINHARD HARDEGEN was one of only 28 U-boat Skippers to earn the Knights Cross with Oak Leaf, and he sank the first ship in American waters during Operation PAUKENSCHLAG (Drumbeat) and so is known as the Drumbeater.  He is also the only surviving Drumbeat Skipper.

Did he really see New York City from his bridge?  That question and others are answered as Captain HARDEGEN relives his memories of his time in the war.

This was part of the 7-SKIPPERS tape, which is no longer available.
